No marriage for the next 10 years: Amrita Rao

She was rumoured to be dating Shahid Kapoor and then Hurman Baweja. But there is no one "special" in her life right now and she won't think about marriage for the next 10 years, says actress Amrita Rao, who is all set to don a glamorous avatar in "Short Kut".

"I'm not getting married for the next 10 years. I don't have anyone special in my life at the moment and my complete focus is on my work," Amrita told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

The 28-year-old entered the Hindi film industry seven years ago with "Ab Ke Baras". She then featured in college love story "Ishq Vishk", sex comedy "Masti", shared screen space with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in potboiler "Main Hoon Na" and social drama "Vivah". She was also appreciated for her performance in Shyam Benegal's non-commercial "Welcome To Sajjanpur".

Now the actress is all set for her first release of the year, "Short Kut - The Con Is On", in which she has teamed up with Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi.

Set in Bollywood, the film is about two strugglers - one who makes it big as a superstar (Arshad) after stealing a script and the other (Akshaye) who continues to struggle as a director after his script gets stolen.

"I am playing an actress in the film. Neeraj Vora wanted to highlight the personal life of an actress through my character," Amrita said.

The actress said that her bold avatar in the film was not a conscious decision.

"Everyone has been asking me whether I made a conscious decision to change my look. This is not the case. I haven't sat and decided that I'm bored with one kind of role so give me something else. It's just that I have got an opportunity to do different roles and I have moulded myself to suit the character," she said.

"The same is the case with my character in this film. I wanted to do something different with the styling of this character and so the new look. Nothing more," Amrita added.

Fashion designer Manish Malhotra is the one who has styled Amrita's new look.

Produced by Anil Kapoor, "Short Kut..." is scheduled for a July 10 release. Amrita says she was thrilled to work with the actor-producer who used to give her pep talks during the shoot.

"Many times he used to give me pep talks, encouraging and motivating me. The whole energy and aura about him is great. He is an incredibly positive personality," the actress said.

Talking about the two male actors in the film, Amrita said: "Akshaye is an actor who comes completely prepared and is a 'one take' actor so you also feel you should give your best.

"Arshad comes up with these impromptu additions to the dialogues which are just so funny. So matching that becomes a little difficult."

Amrita Rao takes a ‘Shortkut’ to success

‘Shortkut’ may be termed as the re-incarnation for Amrita Rao into a glamorous and sizzling avatar from a petite, girl-next-door image. The gossip columns and journals are abuzz with the sensuality she oozes in the promos of the film. Amrita, by far had kept away from skin-show but finally she has realized that if she aspires of success in the glamour world, she has to take the ‘Shortcut’ of being bold and sexy. And her realization does show in the sizzling hot promos of the film.

The film is a light-hearted comedy dealing with the ups and downs in the life of two con artists, Shekhar (played by Akshaye Khanna) who is a struggling director and Chandu (played by Arshad Warsi) who despite lacking in talents manages to make it big in the tinsel town after she steals Shekhar’s prized script.

Amrita Rao plays the role of Mansi, Shekhar’s love interest who later becomes his wife and what follows is confusion, clash of egos and humorous sequences when Shekhar gets to direct Chandu, the superstar.

Amrita Rao shocks - Short Kut is an 'A' film

Amrita Rao shocks - Short Kut is an `A` filmThe most anticipated comedy of the summer, Shortkut, has been in the news for some time thanks to leading lady Amrita Rao's sexy makeover. The demure bride-to-be in Vivaah dons an ultra-glam avtaar in Anil Kapoor's next production after Gandhi - My Father.

Amrita shocked us when she revealed that Shortkut was an "A" film. Shortkut? An adults' film?

To which she laughed, "I don't know if it's occurred to you but all the pillars of Shortkut have names beginning with the alphabet 'A'! Anil Kapoor is our Producer, Anees Bazmee has written the script, and it stars Arshad, Akshaye and myself! So isn’t it a straight 'A' film?"

Let's hope this laugh-out-loud comedy is an 'A' at the box office as well! Shortkut releases worldwide on July 10th by Indian Films- Studio18.

Amrita at IIFA: Sexy yet elegant

IIFA 2004 in Singapore declared her the Face Of The Year, and she has been on the Bollywood circuit for the right reasons. Amrita Rao has always guarded the sweet girl next door image, until we saw her playing a brash teenager in Main Hoon Na. Now, we will see her in a new avatar promoting her next film, Shortkut, at IIFA between June 11 and June 13 this year.

Amrita Rao will be present at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), this weekend to promote her film, Shortkut, scheduled for release in July this year. Directed by Neeraj Vora and produced by Anil Kapoor, its screenplay is by Anees Bazmee.

The cast of Shortkut includes Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi. Sanjay Dutt and producer Anil Kapoor are also scheduled to appear in a cameo. The film is slated to be a family entertainer.

Amrita says, in a release, "Macau is a unique amalgammation of Portugal and Chinese culture, which I am quite fascinated by and looking forward to explore. This year, besides mingling with the entire film fraternity, I will be giving undivided attention to my soon-to-be-released film, Shortkut.”

Known to be a lucky mascot for many Bollywood actors, Amrita will walk the ramp with costar Arshad Warsi as part of the special IIFA Foundation Fashion Extravaganza followed by a rapid fire Q & A round with hosts Zayed Khan and Sophie Choudhary.

She is expected to wear a Wendell Rodricks outfit complemented by jewellery from the Gitanjali Group for the Fashion Extravaganza.

Her look for IIFA is all about being colour and comfortable. Amrita says, “My fashion statement will express loads of ‘green carpet’ glamour for the night, and simple yet sexy dresses for the day.”

Her green carpet and cocktail parties look will be created by designer Swapnil Shinde. Shinde has been instructed to balance sexy and elegant, so expect Amrita to depict a mix of prêt and couture at the IIFA parties.

Amrita will also wear accessories from design houses Christian Dior, FCUK, Aldo, Luxottica Group.

I’m tired of being the sweet girl now I am going hot: Amrita Rao

Shocking as it may sound, Amrita Rao who has been in two of the most successful films of the decade –Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na and Sooraj Barjatya’s Vivah and whose success rate and iconic status is certainly higher than most of her contemporaries, was not asked to part of Karan Johar-Tarun Mansukhani’s Vote Aapke Haath Mein Hai campaign.

When asked about this surprising omission Amrita laughs away the query. “You’ll have to ask them why I wasn’t part of it.”

Amrita, it would seem, has antagonized the Johar-Chopra’s by refusing to do Bachna Ae Haseenon. She a was offered the role that Minissha Lamba finally did.

Says Amrita, “I won’t say I’m tired of playing the sweet girl nextdoor who looks at life each day with wide-eyed wonder. But I do crave for a change of image. In my next release Short Cut I play a very glamorous girl.

For the first time I’m being dressed up by Manish Malhotra. That does say something about the characters I’ve played so far. So yes I declined Bachna Ae Haeseenon. I couldn’t relate to the character.”

No one says no to a Yash Chopra presentation. Amrita’s behaviour was secretly described as “high-handed” and “reckless”.

And now she was refused a place among Bollywood’s 30-minus icons in Karan Johar’s voting-awareness film although everyone from Kareena Kapoor to Ritesh Deshmukh featured in it.

Not that Amrita was brooding over being left out. On Thursday Amrita Rao voted for the first time. So excited was she by the prospect of casting her vote that she reached the polling booth even before the gates had opened.

“At 7 am I was the first voter at the booth in the municipal school in Mahim.I feel so proud of being able to vote for the first time. I keep looking at the black mark on my finger proudly. For years I envied that tell-tale mark on my parents’ finger.”

Amrita’s chosen candidate had to fulfil three prerequisites. “He had to be well-educated, young though not inexperienced, and without a criminal background.”

Interestingly she says she attained a voting consciousness from a electorally-galvanizing website jaagore.com.

Amrita Rao takes Shortkut, gets sexy

The already rising temperatures of summer are going to trouble us more further as Amrita Rao is all set to unleash her sexy avatar with her upcoming summer release flick Shortkut.

The Vivaah actress is all set to shed her inhibitions on the big screen and look as sexy and glamorous as a girl of her age should look like. Shortkut is a Anil Kapoor production co-starring Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi and is being directed by Neeraj Vora.

Bringing the transformation in her styling is none other than designer guru, Manish Malhotra. Manish has been giving such kind of makeovers to almost all the heroines of the industry, starting with Urmila Matondkar in Rangeela, Karisma Kapoor on Raja Hindustani to name a few. Likewise, Amrita will flaunt her abs and legs in skimpy clothes for Shortkut.

States Amrita in this regards, "Till now most of my characters in the films that have done have been conservative and that is why I have had to dress the part.

In Vivaah, the character was so traditional that the attire had to support her beliefs. But Shortkut is a different film and I am wearing clothes accordingly. And all I can say that Manish has done a fabulous job and I feel I am looking great."

Shortkut was earlier scheduled for a March release but the Indian Premiere League's earlier schedule postponed it ahead. The film now may release in end of May.

Priyanka's got no issues with Amrita Rao

Recently there has been a buzz about how Priyanka Chopra's boyfriend Harman Baweja got close to his 'Victory' co-star Amrita Rao on the sets of their cricket based film. That was cited as one of the reasons for the breakup between Piggy Chops and her long time boyfriend.

But it appears now the dusky beauty has absolutely no problems with the cherubic looking Amrita.

In fact Priyanka has been going around praising Amrita's performance in 'Victory'.

And she's doing that on Amrita's face too, quite blatantly.

The buzz is that the two actresses recently caught up during a special show of the film. Priyanka loved her performance so much that she revealed it before Amrita there and then.

A source says, "Priyanka liked Amrita's performance so much that after the screening she went up to her and told her how much she appreciated her work in the film. Amrita was quite touched to hear that from Priyanka. After that the two ladies were inseparable and they had a good chat for a long time."

Well, we must say Priyanka sure has her very own unique way of doing things. Or is it just a game of diplomacy, huh Piggy Chops? Watch this space for more.

A girl next door can also be hot: Amrita Rao

In an industry flooded with glamour girls, she comes across as a breath of fresh air with her girl-next-door looks and her graceful screen presence in films like 'Ishq Vishk' and 'Vivaah'.

The so-called glamour girls may be getting the major share of sound bytes on television these days but pretty Amrita Rao feels that as an actress with a girl-next-door image she too has got more than her share of audience attention.

''The girl-next-door is the best compliment given to me.

However, my definition of a girl-next-door is different from the general perception. I think you girl-next-door can also be hot. Just because she is the girl-next-door does not mean you will not notice her. In that sense, I would like to play the girl-next-door in all my films,'' Amrita says.

Talking to press in an interview, Amrita said,''what matters to me the most is that however contrasting my roles are, something in the role must appear real to that every girl-next-door sitting in the theatre. I don’t want to lose the charm of being a girl from the real world when they see me on screen.''

Currently, Amrita is basking in the success of her latest film 'Welcome to Sajjanpur', a satire made in the backdrop of a village in contemporary India that has been untouched by the winds of modernisation and globalisation in the country.

The film, marking the return to direction by veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal after a long hiatus, features her in the lead along with Shreyas Talpade.

''We are all happy to see that 'Welcome to Sajjanpur' has been so well received by audiences not only the MTV generation but also the masses. What is good to note that the film has appealed to all stratas. Also we were really surprised to find that the lingo of the film and the spirit of the residents of Sajjanpur have really caught on with the people.

What is really exciting for us is that people seen to be already in the swing of the film,''Amrita said.

The film has her playing the role of a rural bottler who is illiterate, naïve and gullible, oblivious to the world around her small village Sajjanpur.

Being a city bred girl, what kind of preparations did she have to do for the role?

''I had to observe a lot of these ladies coming from the villages and those working in houses for a living. I know a couple of them and used to keep on observing them; their body language and the whole pathos of their husbands staying away from them and their feeling on working in the city,''she said.

Amrita Rao poses for Verve

Wow! That was my only reaction when I caught a glimpse of all transformed and re-invented Amrita Rao on the covers of the fashion magazine ‘Verve’ this month. The petite-girl-next door has finally changed her ways for better and looks nothing less than a glam diva with sensuality pouring from her eyes on the pages of the magazine. Her painfully delicate frame just makes her perfect.

The girl has had much happening this year with Bollywood films, Pakistani video and a superhit movie in south as well. No, wonder there is a glow on Amrita’s face!
